Peru, Ecuador and Colombia sign trade agreement with the UK

The agreement signed this Wednesday in Lima, Peru, will help protect the commercial flow of US $ 2,700 million before the departure of the United Kingdom from the EU

On Wednesday, the United Kingdom signed a business continuity agreement in Lima with Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Once it enters into force, “the agreement will help protect a commercial flow of £ 2,100 million, equivalent to USD 2,700 million”.

The negotiation takes place on the eve of the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union, with which they hope to maintain exports of products to the Andean countries. In addition, existing agreements with the European country will be maintained as far as possible.

Thanks to the negotiation, the companies will be able to trade freely as now, without additional barriers or tariffs, according to spokespersons of the British government.

The signature ceremony in the Peruvian capital included the participation of Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno, as well as Peruvian Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Edgar Vásquez, Colombia’s Vice Minister of Commerce Laura Valdivieso and Ecuador’s Trade Minister. Pablo Bell.

George Hollingbery, British Minister of Trade Policy, said: “The United Kingdom is trying to give continuity to existing EU free trade agreements covering around 70 countries that represent about 11% of UK trade.”
