NASA will safeguard ships data with blockchain

Using decentralized technology the data will be well protected and can not be modified

NASA is beginning a phase of changes in which it will have to update many of its rules and policies. For this purpose, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered the space administration to change its security system to the Automatic Dependent Surveillance System for the coming 2020.

Ronald Reisman, an engineer at NASA’s Ames Research Center, published a document stating that the organization is on a serious delay concerning the implementation schedule. This is mainly due to the fact that said surveillance plan does not include the provisions to maintain the same privacy options of the ships.

For NASA it is vital to “maintain current levels of privacy, anonymity, authentication and resiliency for malicious interference, including impersonation and / or denial of service (DoS) attacks.”

The expert Ronald Reisman proposes the implementation of blockchain technology to ensure all the data of the institution. The NASA data is divided into two groups, information on civilian ships and data on military ships.

Civilians prefer to keep a part of the data private, to track their employees against possible espionage actions. For its part, the data from military ships complicate the picture a bit. When dealing with ships of the State, the information is obviously sensitive to third parties.
