More than 1,900 malicious domains identified in new iPhone 12 launching

Kaspersky researchers have detected nearly 100 suspicious domains worldwide each month

Apple has presented this Tuesday the new iPhone 12 family, which in addition to the interest of users of the American brand, has also attracted the attention of cybercriminals, who have taken the opportunity to increase their activity to exceed 1,900 malicious domains at the end of September in all the world.

Kaspersky researchers have detected nearly 100 suspicious domains around the world in which Apple was mentioned as a business each month between January and September 2020. Most of these websites require users to enter their ID and password. Manzana.

The number of these resources increased rapidly in September, reaching 1,950 domains at the end of that month, as reported by the company in a statement. Some of these resources offer finding lost phones, and others help restore access to user accounts. There are also phishing sites that mimic Apple’s support services.

“This resurgence of scammers ‘interest in Apple services shows that they are ready to profit from anything that attracts users’ attention,” says Kaspersky security expert Tatyana Sidorina.

For example, the launch of the new iPhone 12, which was unveiled on Tuesday, “could be a perfect opportunity for scammers to spread malicious features.” To avoid falling for these types of scams, Sidorina advises users to be “skeptical” of any extremely generous news, offer or promotion.
