Venezuela begins easing quarantine

Nicolás Maduro announced a series of measures for the reactivation of the economy from June 1st

The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced this Sunday a plan for the flexibilization of the quarantine with the aim of progressively reactivate the country’s economy.

The president gave details of the “model of five days of work with safe flexibility and 10 days of quarantine with sectors allowed in its operation.” Meanwhile, the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, indicated that the first phase of the flexibilization plan includes nine industry sectors in different time zones, such as banking agencies, hairdressers, medical offices, hardware stores, the construction sector, footwear, services to home, textile and transport.

Maduro also announced the increase in the price of gasoline. Users must pay 5,000 thousand bolivars or USD 0.50 for a liter of fuel. Vehicle owners should go to service stations at a specific day of the week according to the car license plate termination number.

During this first phase of quarantine easing, according to Delcy Rodríguez, the involved sectors “must guarantee mandatory prevention measures, such as the use of masks, the physical distance of at least one and a half meters between people, temperature checking to the workers and the use of alcohol for the disinfection of the workspaces.”

Municipalities located in the states in the limits with Colombia and Brazil are excluded from the flexibility. Likewise, people over 65 who have chronic illnesses must remain at home.
