Microsoft launches application for blind people

The application called Seeing AI uses Artificial Intelligence to allow people with vision problems to perceive in greater detail what is around them. The device describes everything that is observed through the camera

The main function of the app is that users be able to explore the content of photos by gently passing their hand over the screen. The tool will read aloud the description of the objects and people it is pointed at.

After two years of operation the application is only available for iOS and is completely free. The user only has to open an image in the viewer and the machine learning will describe everything that is touched in the photo.

Saqib Shaikh, one of the developers of the platform says: “This new functionality allows users to take advantage of the tactile property of their screens to hear a description of the objects within an image and the spatial relationship between them. The app can even describe people’s physical appearance and predict their mood.”

Similarly, Seeing AI added native iPad support for all users who cannot access a mobile device and need to use the tool in academic settings.
