Kerala will use blockchain technology network in food supply

The Indian state will implement the system in the milk, vegetable and fish distribution areas

The government of the state of Kerala, India, will adopt the blockchain technology in the distribution system of common foods and strategic areas such as dairy, vegetables and fish. The project is being carried out by the Strategic Development and Innovation Council of Kerala (K-DISC).

The design of the system will include RFID tags as well as the use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices to monitor transport. It was stated that the authorities seek a rational use of the distribution networks of food and products.

The blockchain will allow to control aspects related to the items of the food sector as its source or origin, production, quality and distribution. Other aspects they wish to strengthen are healthy harvests and timely responses to commercial orders, all with the help of new technologies.

The measures that the government of Kerala will apply will benefit both the final consumer and the producers of the dairy sector, farmers, fishermen and distribution chains that often face losses and need compensation plans.

The use of blockchain technology will optimize the monitoring of all the processes in the production chain, transfer of the inputs from the production site to the distribution chains, as well as freshness and good condition for the benefit of the consumer.
