IMF assures that the economy “is not yet safe”

Director Kristalina Georgieva indicated that a second coronavirus outbreak could be fatal to the world at large

The director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, assured that although the world economy is showing recovery rates, a second major outbreak could bring more blows to this sector.

Georgieva indicated that the fiscal costs of measures to contain the pandemic and mitigate its economic consequences were raising already high levels of debt, but that it was premature to start withdrawing safety nets.

It should be noted that in June, the IMF lowered the forecasts for world production in 2020, forecasting that there will be a 4.9% contraction along with a weaker recovery by 2021.

The director, on the other hand, indicated that the different actions taken by the world banks, together with the fiscal measures of the members of the G20, have enormously collapsed the global economy.
