IBM seeks to strengthen efficiency in cybersecurity

The company ensures that by implementing the Internet of Things the efficiency of Bitcoin's Proof-of-Work protocol can be brought to an almost perfect stage

A group of researchers from the IBM company have concentrated on the study of cybersecurity, specifically focused on Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work protocol.

The objective is to take it to the maximum level of efficiency and reduce associated expenses. For this, they propose the strategic implementation of the tools of the Internet of Things (IoT), as well as structural models of blockchain networks.

The responsible of the study indicate, with audacity, that the security protocol could be brought to an almost perfect level of efficiency in order to offer greater scalability, reduce energy consumption without neglecting the high standards of safety and performance.

To reach this conclusion, they carried out tests with the PoW algorithm. However, they had problems because the equipment has a much lower processing power than the ASIC devices.

Emanuele Ragnoli, leading research engineer, said: “At this moment we consider the blockchain as totally flat systems between pairs, in which all the nodes have to do the same things, competing with each other in order to obtain the mining reward, but it is not necessary for everyone to do the same work “.

Ragnoli’s proposal is the creation of a layered ecosystem, in which different pairs can do different things, like subcategories of blockchain with more specific tasks.

The combination of IoT and blockchain technology will strengthen the security of information and enhance the flow of data. Ragnoli asked users for patience in the face of current limitations.
