Huawei registers Harmony system in Europe

The company claims that the new system has been created for the Internet of Things. For mobiles, the first option is to "keep using Android"

The Chinese technological giant requested the name of Harmony for operating systems of mobile devices and computers. The request was made to the European Union agency responsible for the registration of community trademarks. The application is being valued according to the agency’s website.

Recently, it was known that the company was designing an operating system with the name Hong Meng that could be an alternative to Android. In May Huawei registered in Europe a new operating system with the name of Huawei Ark OS, known in China as Huawei Hong Meng.

Liang Hua, interim president of the firm, says: “The Hong Meng has been built for the Internet of Things but for mobile phones, our first option is still to continue using the Android operating system.”

“We have not yet decided if we will use it on our own smartphones but since it has been developed for the Internet of Things, we would like it to be used for that and to apply it in the 5G ecosystem,” he said.

Undoubtedly, if the company finally decides to put the operating system into use on their phones this would be a milestone for the telephony sector, since it could put an end to the duopoly exercised today by Google with Android and Apple with iOS.
