Electronic commerce data theft continues to rise

Users of social networks as well as those involved in electronic commerce are affected by increasingly specialized hackers that steal data and infect computers, among other common crimes

The theft of data to companies and individuals through digital platforms keeps cybersecurity experts on alert throughout the world. The rise of ecommerce and electronic banking have led hackers to implement increasingly sophisticated methods.

The most common crimes of network pirates are data theft – identity, passwords, debit or credit card number; identity theft, hijacking of smart equipments, introduction of viruses in networks, among others.

Cybercriminals take advantage of every occasion the user enters a portal, completes a survey, makes a payment or purchases online to commit their misdeeds. In this way they obtain sensitive information, personal data.

Social networks apparently facilitate the work of hackers. Through each user’s publication the offender can know where, how and with whom he lives; Where are you going on vacation? What do you buy? “This can lead to identity theft, robbery, blackmail and physical theft, as well as data and credentials theft.”

Then there is electronic commerce directly. Cybersecurity experts recommend resorting to password managers, using tools such as Paypal or monitoring the security certificate in detail.

In the case of online surveys and questionnaires of this type, it is important to be attentive to personal questions that may reveal clues to criminals and expose the person. Identity theft is the most common crime related to this activity.

Some current technological devices, such as fitness trackers, can be hacked and from there obtain sensitive user information for their illicit purposes.

Experts in digital security point out that the elimination of documents and photos in the common action of sending them to the computer’s wastebasket is not a guarantee of security. In fact, they indicate: “With the right software, hackers can recover anything in their garbage container and use it for their own benefit. If users really want to eliminate digital garbage, they should clean the hard drive.”
