Google will not shut down Gmail services

The company clarified that Gmail will continue to operate and will not shut down, refuting rumors that surfaced after an alleged viral statement

Google clarified that Gmail will continue to operate and will not close, refuting rumors that surfaced after a supposed viral statement on social media claimed otherwise.

X developer Chris Bakke shared on his personal profile a seemingly official statement announcing that Gmail was “coming to its end.”

According to this message, as of August 1, 2024, Gmail would officially stop working, which would mean that sending, receiving or storing emails would not be allowed.

However, Google confirmed that this post is satirical and false. Gmail accounts will remain accessible and users will be able to access and download their emails as usual. The tech company has reiterated that Gmail is here to stay.
