Google adds new feature to its SMS service

The platform will now allow scheduling text messages at specific times and dates, just as the user wishes

Google added a new feature to its messaging app, Google Messages, that allows users to schedule their text messages (SMS) to be sent at specified times and days.

This function will allow SMS to be sent automatically at the time or day chosen by users and not immediately. They can choose between three set times, for example: ‘Later today, 6:00 pm’, ‘Later tonight, 9:00 pm’ or ‘Tomorrow, 8:00 am’, or select the date and time they want manually.

After sending a scheduled message, the feature also allows users to change the text as well as the date and time they want it to be sent. They can also delete the scheduled message or send it immediately.

To use this new feature, they will need to press and hold the send button and the option to schedule the message will be displayed. Once sent, it will appear in the chat ‘Scheduled message’ together with a clock icon.

So far, this new function for scheduling SMS is not available to all Google Messages users, although the company has already started its distribution and is expected to reach more people in the coming weeks.
