FBI joins investigation of biggest crypto scam of 2020

The US body is supporting Mirror Trading International (MTI) to protect the interests of several US investors

The Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States (FBI) is helping South African authorities in the investigation of the company Mirror Trading International (MTI), which could be considered the largest cryptocurrency scam of 2020.

The FBI is collaborating with the liquidators of the South African company, in order to protect the interests of several investors from the United States, and some local ones.

According to the media, MTI went into liquidation at the end of June 2021 and South African financial officials labeled it a Ponzi scam, in addition to being seen as the largest crypto scam of 2020.

“We had meetings with international law enforcement agencies, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, after being contacted by them. The FBI is joining forces with the liquidators of Mirror Trading International in the interest of several local and American investors”, says part of a statement from the company.

South Africa Plans to Regulate Cryptocurrencies to Promote “Responsible Innovation”. The Intergovernmental Fintech Working Group (IFWG) published a position paper on crypto assets that sets out a framework for how the government would regulate assets in the future in South Africa. By the way, in that country there is great interest in crypto investment, according to a report.
