Crypto mining in Venezuela should require a license

After a meeting of officials from the electricity sector and members of the cryptocurrency miners community, the possibility of creating a new rate for this activity was raised

A meeting was recently held between officials of the Venezuelan electricity sector, the National Cryptocurrency Superintendency (Sunacrip) and members of the mining community, the possibility of requiring a new license along with new rates for energy consumption was raised.

The new contract for the use of electricity service for cryptocurrency miners would have an undisclosed cost, but it would cost more than 0.09 kWh (9 cents per kilowatt per hour).

If this information is confirmed, the price would become three times more expensive than the one currently used in the United States, of 0.03 kw / h.

On the other hand, Venezuela would also be placed above other nations such as Argentina, China, Russia, India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, in terms of the cost of electricity.

Corpoelec, allegedly would have been emphatic on the importance of bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining for the Venezuelan state, adding that some areas of the country, especially urbanized ones, in the main cities, no longer have electrical capacity to receive cryptocurrency miners. On the contrary, the Guri dam and power plant, located in the southwest of the country, is indicated as an area with enough capacity.
