Costa Rica seeks to fight the economic crisis

The Government and Parliament meet this Friday along with 70 other organizations to seek a solution to the current situation

The president of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, and his counterpart in Parliament, Eduardo Cruickshank, summoned some 70 organizations for this Friday with a view to a new dialogue to address the financial crisis in which the country is mired and which has provoked protests in the last weeks.

The call follows last week’s failed attempt at dialogue. The meeting has been arranged for this morning at the headquarters of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) and its objective is to “rethink and put in motion together, the mechanisms that will guide the presentation and analysis of proposals on economic growth, generation of employment and for the sustainability of public finances,” they explain in the call.

Likewise, they make clear “the sense of urgency that will guide the work during the coming weeks to specify the proposals that our population and our economy soon need.”

“Costa Rica requires that we return to the Costa Rican tradition of finding solutions to great national challenges through dialogue and institutionality,” Alvarado and Cruickshank defend in their invitation, according to the statement of the Presidential House.

Both influence the impact that the coronavirus pandemic has had in these areas and argue that “its approach can only be achieved through sincere dialogue and collective construction between social, business and political actors.”
