Companies do not have enough cybersecurity staff

According to a conclusion reached by ISACA, cybersecurity companies do not have the necessary number of employees to face the challenges

61% of companies’ cybersecurity teams have sufficient personnel to face the challenges that this poses in the business environment, which is why almost half of organizations lack employees to perform these functions.

It is one of the conclusions reached by ISACA in its State of Cybersecurity 2023, an annual survey that explains the most recent panorama of cybersecurity threats, challenges and contracting opportunities.

This report, sponsored by Adobe, also shows that 50 percent of the more than 2,000 security managers around the world who participated in the survey indicated that they have job openings for non-core or specialized positions, while 21 percent percent claimed to have vacancies for basic or entry-level positions.

At the level of personnel and skills, the research shows that some progress has been made in retaining employees dedicated to cybersecurity, but it remains a challenge for the business fabric.

So much so that just over half (56%) of those responsible for this area claim to have difficulties retaining qualified professionals in this field, although this figure has decreased by up to four points compared to last year.

ISACA believes that continuing to reduce retention problems may be difficult because the benefits offered to cybersecurity professionals have decreased, among other things, due to economic uncertainty.

In any case, this area has proven to be essential in most organizations, which must be staffed by specialized personnel. Hence, respondents say they typically look for workers focused on identity and access management (49%), cloud computing (48%), data protection (44%), incident response (44%), and DevSecOps ( 36%).
