In a recent post on his blog predictions for the year 2024, Bill Gates, the influential investor and co-founder of Microsoft, as well as co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, expressed his firm belief in the transformative role that artificial intelligence (AI) will play in building a more equitable world.

In his publication entitled “The Way Ahead Reaches a Turning Point in 2024”, Gates reveals his vision of the positive impact AI can have in critical areas such as education and mental health. He highlighted how AI can be used strategically to improve access to these critical areas, underscoring his commitment to ensuring that this technology contributes to reducing global inequalities.

Gates, also founder of Breakthrough Energy, shared his personal experience of using AI seriously for the first time in 2023. He emphasized that, through strategic investments, AI has the potential to close the time gap between the adoption of innovations by the more affluent and the less privileged sectors, even suggesting that it could “close” this gap.

The visionary billionaire entrepreneur highlighted the importance of tailoring AI products to the specific needs of people, especially in critical sectors such as global health. Gates predicted a rapid increase in widespread AI use in high-income countries, such as the United States, over the next 18 to 24 months, and predicted a comparable level of adoption in African countries in about three years.

With a focus on the legacy we will leave for future generations, Gates concluded by expressing concern and curiosity about the world that today’s youth will inherit, emphasizing the need to shape the future of AI responsibly for the benefit of all humanity.
