AKB Fintech suspends installation of ATMs in dollars in Venezuela

The company alleged that "due to the confusion generated" the decision was made to suspend the installation of these devices in several cities of the country

The AKB Fintech company announced that it will no longer place the ATMs in dollars, which it planned to install in several cities in Venezuela.

As indicated in a statement, one of the main reasons for the suspension is the “confusion” that has provoked this iniciative.

“AKB Fintech informs the general public, very responsibly, that given the confusion and doubts that have been generated in the environment on the occasion of the announcement made by the company regarding the imminent launch in the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela of one of the products associated with the digital wallet Mía, which through the use of new generation technologies would allow the dispensing of foreign currencies in cash in commercial premises located in that country, has decided to suspend the implementation of said product “, according to the official information.

For now, the fintech company is seeking to reach agreements with traditional banking, to be able to bring this service and thus “meet the needs of its customers.”

It should be noted that, at the time of the announcement of the installation of this type of ATM, the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) had indicated through a circular that it did not authorize AKB Fintech to dispose of these devices in the country, due to the current exchange rate measures.
