Adblock Plus to use blockchain for detecting false news

The Trusted News browser extension is available in its beta version through Google Chrome

Trusted News is the new product that Adblock Plus will use to detect and combat the circulation of advertising and false news. It is based on blockchain technology and is available in its beta version through Google Chrome.

The extension will be operative through the MetaCert protocol, which maintains a registry of reliable URLs. It is expected that the database will be transferred to the Ethereum blockchain, with which it will be updated daily. In addition, it won’t have to resort to central servers.

Trusted News will allow to distinguishing false news from reliable ones. Once the client installs the browser extension, a window with the corresponding classification will be displayed: reliable, unknown, user or malicious content.

Ben Williams, director of ecosystems of the company, has indicated that users will have the option to give their opinion regarding the classifications granted to the news and they will also be able to refute them if they consider it pertinent.

Another initiative that the company plans is the early release of MetaCert tokens. These will be used to combat the manipulation of data in the system and also to offer rewards to active users.
