Instagram introduced the streaming channels feature

The Instagram social network launched on Friday the Channels function that will allow you to share news and messages with followers

Instagram introduced its new messaging tool called Channels, with which users will be able to create channels to share text, video and photo updates with all followers who decide to join the channel.

Transmission channels are based on a chat that allows one-way messages to be sent from the creator to all users who join said channel. These messages reach followers in the form of updates in their direct message inboxes, a system very similar to Telegram channels.

As Meta explains in a statement, you can create all the channels that the creator considers and, in them, share both photos, videos and text, as well as gifts, surveys and voice notes. Thus, as it is an interactive communication tool, followers will be able to react to any of these messages once they receive the notification. Creators will be able to create channels based on themes, such as a sports or fashion channel, and share updates, news, information or comments.

As for followers, Instagram has developed that they will be able to leave or mute streaming channels at any time. In the same way, they can also configure creator notifications by going to the creator’s profile, and clicking on the bell icon. After that, you will have to select the transmission channel and choose between receiving all notifications, none or some.

Instagram promises more news on the channels

Likewise, Instagram has indicated that it will add more features to the streaming channels in the coming months. Among them, it is considering allowing channels created by more than one user. It will also include the ability to ask questions with features such as ‘Ask Me Anything’.

Instagram is testing the feature with a limited group of creators in the United States before rolling it out globally. However, the platform has made a waiting list available to interested users to obtain this function as soon as possible.

One of the first users to launch the tool is the company’s own CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, who has created a channel to share news and updates on all the products and technology Meta is building. “It will be the place where I will first share news about Meta products,” he said. Following this thread, Zuckerberg has announced that in the coming months Meta will also roll out streaming channels on Facebook and Messenger.
