Cyber scams add to the World Cup fever

The world cup, which will be held in Qatar, could be a space for many cyber scams to take place due to the number of followers

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar kicks off on Sunday, November 20 and, in addition to attracting millions of fans from around the world, it also attracts the interest of cybercriminals looking to make a quick buck.

The Qatar 2022 World Cup has not yet started, but it is already starring in various phishing websites designed to steal bank details and passwords from users, as analysts at the cybersecurity company Kaspersky warned.

The experts of this company found fake pages that offer everything from event tickets or merchandising to match viewing services, as well as scams with non-fungible tokens (NFT) that exploit the pull of the Soccer World Cup.

A distinctive feature of the threat landscape on the eve of the 2022 World Cup is the spread of crypto scams, mostly exploiting the popularity of NFT.

Some Internet sites propose to bet money on a match in order to win cryptocurrencies or digital works of art. Another type of fraud is that of crypto investments. Fraudsters create real coins and convince the user to invest in them with the promise of growth in value.

The absence of the limitations imposed by the pandemic will cause the World Cup to be the scene of many events with in-person spectators, in which thousands of tourists will participate on those days in Qatar, something that has not gone unnoticed by fraudsters.
