Banco de Chile creates a cybersecurity division

Through a telephone conference, the company confirmed the investment of 16 million dollars in this new division

In a conference call with analysts at Banco de Chile, a very important announcement was made related to the entity’s cybersecurity.

Months ago, the Chilean institution suffered a theft of 10 million dollars, an event that until now has not been clarified.

Given this situation, the board made the decision to improve its cybersecurity division with an investment of at least 16 million dollars.

“In the last year, we invested 16 million dollars in cybersecurity, we want to highlight that we created a cybersecurity division in the bank, independent of the operations and technology division,” the company explained.

This department will be headed by Fermin Uribe-Echevarría Marbach, who has worked at Dreamlab Technologies and as Project Manager of Information Security at Transbank. Banco de Chile also announced a few weeks ago that it is migrating its ATMs to Windows 7, a system that will become obsolete by 2020.
