Fernandez says economic adjustments will not affect humble populations

The Argentine president defended the agreement reached this week with international creditors

Argentine President Alberto Fernández defended the agreement reached with international creditors and assured that “this time the adjustment will not be paid by the humblest.”

“The adjustment this time will not be paid by the most humble. The adjustment will be paid by those who speculated, the creditors. That continues to be my commitment,” said the president.

Fernández rejected so there are cuts. “I invite you to review the 2019 budget and compare it with the one we send for next year. You will see that the only adjustment is on debt interests. It is the only adjustment that exists. Then, investment in infrastructure, education and health will grow.”

The president of Argentina defended the need to ally with the business community. “Let’s not get confused: so that we can do all this, the State must partner with businessmen and help them to produce and create the conditions for them to give work, export and bring foreign currency.”

The president thus endorsed the letter sent by the official senators to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) coinciding with a visit by a mission of the organization to the country to renegotiate the terms of the debt. In the letter, the Kirchner senators call on the IMF to “refrain from demanding or conditioning Argentina’s economic policies.”
