France selects ConsenSys to develop its digital currency

The Ethereum incubator will provide the necessary technology to the French government in its foray into the crypto universe

ConsenSys was selected by the Central Bank of France for the development of its own digital currency. The Ethereum incubator would provide the technological support and knowledge in this area. The work has been entrusted to the Société Générale – Forge, one of the eight entities authorized to begin the trials of a CBDC, as it became known this Wednesday.

The work to achieve the design and issuance of a digital currency that addresses bank settlement has progressed rapidly. The government of France is very interested in the crypto universe, after the success achieved in last month’s test with a digital euro based on the Tezos blockchain.

According to Jean-Marc Stenger, general director of the Société Générale – Forge, the selection of ConsenSys for technological support has been the correct one, considering it “a key player in the development of distributed ledger technology worldwide “which” offers many of the infrastructure and development tools used by the blockchain community.”

The current European environment is favorable to these advances in the universe of cryptocurrencies. In fact, the EU has been conducting various consultations with member countries for some time on the feasibility and benefits of a digital euro.

In France, in addition to the Société Générale – Forge, seven other companies are “experimenting with a French CBDC, including HSBC and Accenture, presenting the bank and the rest of Europe with multiple options for its adoption”.
