Mexico’s GDP fell 0.1% during 2019
The Mexican economy contracted during the previous period due to industrial activity, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography
The Gross Domestic Product of Mexico contracted 0.1% during 2019 due to the dynamics of the industrial activity in that country.
This was reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi in Spanish), who explained that this 0.1% represents a substantial decline in the economy when compared to the GDP increase of 2.1% in 2018.
The fall of this indicator also occurred in relation to secondary activities, despite advances in the agricultural and services sectors.
On January 30, the Inegi estimated in a preliminary way that the GDP had fallen 0.1%, so the final result disclosed is identical. For the last three months of 2019, Inegi reported that the economy had fallen 0.1% compared to the previous quarter, with seasonally adjusted figures.
The fall of the Mexican economy showed falls in each of the quarters from October-December 2018 to the April-July period. The third quarter of 2019 showed growth, but it was zero.
