Kraken reports vulnerability in Trezor wallets

Researchers ensure that the vulnerability is located in the hardware and recommend users to use passwords

The security research company for the exchange, Kraken identified and reported a vulnerability in the hardware for the storage of Trezor cryptocurrencies, which  allowed hackers take control of the seed codes in less than 15 minutes.

According to the source, the researchers state that hackers could be generating a fault in the electrical system of the devices and thus extract the sedd codes of both Trezor One and Trezor Model T devices.

For his part, the head of security of Kraken, Nick Percoco, indicated that “it is a fault present in the hardware. It is not something that they can cover with a formal update and share with all customers. This problem could only be addressed by doing a technical review and launching a new device.”

In addition, Ledger’s security team also conducted investigations in this regard in order to detect the security breaches present in the company’s devices.

Meanwhile, the Trezor team added that “physical access to devices is a valid threat between 6-9% of users … If a person is vulnerable to this type of threat, we recommend using the password functions. But we reiterate that the common users are not exposed to these types of risks.”
