TLC agreement between Peru and China yields positive balances

Rules of origin, customs procedures and trade facilitation were some of the issues discussed in the Fourth round of negotiation

The optimization of the Free Trade Agreement (TLC) between Peru and China optimized the alliances between both nations in relation to their trade agreements, throwing positive balances, something that is significant for Peru due to the great relationship that this South American nation has with the Asian country , the latter being one of the main trading partners of Peru.

Among the topics discussed at this meeting, we can highlight: rules of origin, customs procedures and trade facilitation, global supply chain, intellectual property, investment, competition policy, trade in services and electronic commerce.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) said: “This round has meant a significant advance. We have successfully closed the Global Supply Chain chapter, which aims to promote a favorable environment for the development of logistics corridors and connectivity in the different modes of transport.”

The Mincetur portfolio also reported: “In general, we can highlight substantial advances in chapters such as Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation, Trade in Services and Rules of Origin. That is why we hope that this process will be completed in the nearest term so that the benefits of the TLC are taken advantage of by foreign trade operators.”

During the last five years, consecutively, Peru and China have had a continuous growth in exports with a demand for agricultural products that has risen to 14% and the fishery to 5%. This agro-export dynamics is also due to a greater demand for products such as blueberries (152%), tangerines (87%), grapes (43%), avocado (16%) and fruits (37%), representing (85%) of the total agriculture field.
