Venezuela and Germany resume diplomatic relations

The Venezuelan authorities decided to start the normalization of diplomatic relations with Germany; after the government of Nicolás Maduro declared the ambassador "non grata" person and expelled him from the territory last March

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry authorized the return to the country of German Ambassador Daniel Kriener who was expelled in March after participating in meetings with Venezuelan National Assembly president Juan Guaidó.

The competent authorities stated through a communiqué: “After various contacts with the German government, a process of normalization of diplomatic relations between the two States has begun.

Likewise, the ministry affirmed that consequently the Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro decided “to leave without effect the content of the communiqué of last March 6, 2019, by means of which the ambassador was declared persona non grata.”

Consequently, Germany considered that the ambassador would return to the South American nation to build an agenda based on mutual interests, according to the principles of international cooperation.

It is worth remembering that Germany is one of the many European countries that have recognized the president of the National Assembly Juan Guaidó as interim president of Venezuela with a view to leading the country to the new presidential elections.
