Colombia and Caricom agreed to strengthen commercial ties

Delegates from the South American country and representatives of the Caribbean Community agreed to strengthen commercial ties during its first summit of foreign ministers this Saturday

During the meeting of Caricom foreign ministers this Saturday, the regional body and Colombia agreed to strengthen their ties, with priority areas such as trade, transport and sports, among others.

Cartagena de Indias was the city where the meeting was held with the assistance of the foreign ministers of the member countries, after the 49th Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Medellin and in which members of the Caribbean bloc participated.

Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo explained that during the sessions they analyzed “the perspectives of cooperation on issues such as economy, trade, investment, tourism, education, health, agro-industry and renewable energy, among others, to deepen the bilateral relationships.”

Colombia and Caricom decided to deepen the trade agreement signed in 1994, according to Trujillo, for which they will summon the administrative commission to redefine strategies. For the time being, they created the “Caricom-Colombia mixed commission” that will be responsible for following up the decisions that are adopted.

The ministerial summit will be held every three years to promote development, renew the political will and relations of the peoples in the areas of culture, education and sport.
