Panama and China continues negotiations for trade agreement

The authorities of the Republic of Panama and the People's Republic of China began the fifth round of negotiations for the Trade Agreement between the two nations

The fifth round of negotiations started on Wednesday 24 and will end Firday 26 in the city of Beijing, China. The Panamanian team is headed by the Minister of Commerce and Industry Néstor González and the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and chief negotiator for Panama, Alberto Alemán Arias.

In the same way, a large representation of the Panamanian private sector, mainly representatives of the productive sectors, was confirmed at the meeting. The event seeks to ensure market openings for the products with the greatest potential and to seek the best conditions for the attraction of foreign investment in China.

Minister González said: “We are optimistic of being able to advance in the negotiations while maintaining our position of looking after the best interests in Panama.” He also highlighted the active participation of the private sector, which attended the call of the ministry to participate in the negotiations.

For his part, Alemán Arias said that in this fifth round will continue to advance the commercial interests that have emerged from the permanent consultations with the private sector and organized civil society.

It is worth emphasizing that representatives of the private sector will receive progress reports every day of negotiations, as has been done in previous rounds. In addition, at the end of the meeting a report will be rendered to the country through a press conference.
