Sudeban studies alternative payment means in Venezuela

Members of the Superintendency of Banking Sector Institutions (Sudeban) met with representatives of the public and private banks of Venezuela with the objective of evaluating and proposing actions that guarantee the independence of the payment systems

Three agreements were reached, during this meeting. The interconnection of the payment processors, examining the capacities of the inter-bank networks Suiche 7B and Conexus to route the total of transactions, and the analysis of other electronic payment options.

Antonio Morales, the Superintendent of Banking Sector Institutions (Sudeban in Spanish) said: “We must go to a new phase of electronic payment and explore all the existing options in the market.”

Several proposals were presented at the meeting, including the empowerment of the “Biopago” channel, which has a level 5 authentication; that is, a highly secure transaction. It is intended to integrate public banking and then private banking.

Likewise, it was proposed to develop extra payment methods using the QR code, text messaging (SMS), payment buttons, virtual points of sale, transfers through emails and any other alternative digital payment means.

To conclude, the importance of reinforcing and increasing the use of the Interbank Mobile Payment System was also exposed. Sudeban will continue working to achieve the autonomy of the national payment system.
