Facial recognition technology will be used in the White House

The Secret Service is already using facial recognition in the White House despite criticism

Facial recognition technology has advanced exponentially in recent years. But this has only increased the controversy over the invasion of citizens’ privacy.

However, the Secret Service of the United States has announced through a statement and an official document that they are using the facial recognition technology, without caring at all about the subject of privacy.

The tests are being carried out at the surroundings of the White House, where several volunteers of the Secret Service are making rounds in parks and public places nearby.

The facial recognition software is applied to search and find the test subjects, which are identified biometrically. The pilot program will keep the images if there is a match and will not share information with other agencies.

The official document states that the purpose of the pilot plan is to detect subjects of known interest, before the intervention of the law is necessary. That is, the facial recognition system around the White House seeks to detect latent threats.
