Forum on Sustainable Development 2019 will be in Chile

The Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development will be held for the second time from April 18h to 20th 2019 in Santiago de Chile

The forum is the result of the leadership and political commitment of the countries of the region with the 2030 agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In its first edition, the meeting was held in Mexico City in 2017 and brought together 800 Latin American and Caribbean representatives from governments, civil society and the private sector.

The Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean is the regional expression of follow-up and implementation of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development.

The 2030 agenda accepted by the 193 countries represented in the General Assembly of the United Nations, emerged from a broad debate and in a context of democratic multilateralism as a response of the international community to the profound economic, social and environmental imbalances prevailing in the world.

The forum is an integrating space in which governments participate together with all the actors of society, developing alliances to find solutions to common challenges in aspects that cover different issues. That is to say, it is a meeting that allows the region to speak with its own voice in the global debate.

The role of this platform is crucial to address the challenges that go beyond borders, such as the impact of climate change, illicit flows and migration, in order to strengthen the alliances necessary to solve them.
