Venezuela demands the Bank of England’s immediate return of gold
Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela's interim president, demanded last week that the Bank of England return the gold bars belonging to the nation's reserves but still held by the financial institution, calling the act an arbitrary seizure
Last week, Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, demanded that the Bank of England release the gold held by the financial institution, calling the act an arbitrary seizure of the national reserves.
He stated that he “will not cease his demands for the restitution of these assets,” and emphasized that these are resources that belong “exclusively to the Venezuelan people and not to the foreign banking institution,” therefore demanding an end to this situation without further excuses.
According to Rodríguez, at this time there is no legal or political pretext “that justifies keeping the funds of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) frozen.”
In this regard, he instructed both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Attorney General’s Office to activate without delay “all relevant diplomatic tools and international bodies to press for the return of the funds.”
Félix Plasencia, who has become the Director of International Affairs for the Presidency, has been tasked with recovering the gold held at the Bank of England, according to what Rodríguez stated during a broadcast on the channel Venezolana de Televisión.
