Volkswagen sets electrification and digitization targets for 2030

One of the initial plans was to manufacture 300,000 more electric cars a year for the main brand in the European market alone

The expansion of the fleet of pure electric vehicles will advance more rapidly at Volkswagen under the pressure of stricter climate targets until 2030, the year in which it is set as a goal to implement its fleet digitization strategy, according to the company.

Volkswagen included this measure as part of its strategic plan until the end of the current decade, as a result of the objective set by the European Union to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 % in the next ten years.

In this sense, one of the initial plans was to manufacture 300,000 more electric cars a year for the main brand in the European market alone. In addition, the business of data and the download of additional functions in the car software is another objective of the company.

One of the main elements of this is the digital equipment of the vehicles, so that all the possible functions are pre-installed and the users can activate them later according to the demand and the driving profile.

On the other hand, the automaker aims to increase the percentage of pure electric vehicles more quickly, but it is also clinging to the relaunch of combustion engine models and the often controversial hybrid cars.
