Vienna prepares a token for incentive program

The capital of Austria will shortly be launching a digital asset that will serve as a reward for people who help a feedback process

The capital of Austria, Vienna, is developing a token that will be based on blockchain technology, and which will enter into an incentive program.

This is the “Vienna token” currency, which was originally scheduled to be released in December 2018. This project is being carried out by the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

The head of the Research Institute of Cryptoeconomics in Vienna, Shermin Voshmgir said that the digital asset can be delivered to its citizens as a subsidy after offering feedback on the city, using an application to make different payments.

Voshmgir also detailed that this incentive program is not the only way in which such tokens can be implemented, and that some use cases already exist since last fall.

“We are in a development phase in which we take into account together with the city how the token should look. We must understand how we can generate a token that adds value to the city, said the head of the institute.
