Venezuela produces 16,000 tons of cocoa annually

Annual cocoa production in Venezuela stands at 16,000 tons, of which the South American nation exports 50%, according to the National Association of Cocoa Producers

Recent data from the National Association of Cocoa Producers places Venezuela’s production at 16,000 tons annually, of which the country allocates 50 % for export and the remainder to the domestic industry.

The president of Asoprocave, Vicente Petit, director of this association in the North Central Coastal Region, confirmed this information and added that in recent years the activity has been affected by the quality of the product, emphasizing that it is not the quality of the bean but rather “its presentation that has impacted the price received by producers.”

Petit explained that large chocolate companies are operating at only 50 % of their installed capacity. Meanwhile, most artisans “obtain their raw materials from derivatives produced by the domestic industry.”
