US Department of Energy will invest in blockchain projects

The US Department of Energy announced that it will grant federal funding for research and development of blockchain projects

The financial investment will reach 4.8 million dollars for universities that work in research and development projects, including those related to decentralized technology.

The financing will be made through the Fossil Energy Office of the department within the framework of the “Training and Research for Universities”, initiative that aims to develop applications for fossil fuels.

According to the spokespersons of the institution, the projects seek to achieve several purposes, including the development of nascent technologies to use domestic energy resources more economically.

One of the areas that aspire to support is the blockchain technology, as this can ensure the process of sending information and the flow of data within distributed networks.

For its part, this is not the first time in which the organization explores the use of blockchain technology for technological improvements. In January they signed an alliance with BlockCypher to develop solutions that allow energy transactions between multiple blockchains.
