Ukraine completes pilot plan for its digital currency

The digital currency will be in charge of the Central Bank of Ukraine and can be implemented with the technology of a centralized register as a decentralized one

The Ukrainian entity completed the pilot plan for the creation of its national digital currency called E-Hryvnia. The National Bank of Ukraine has been considering the concept for at least one year and started the project’s pilot scheme in December 2018.

The country is currently dependent on cash payments, a situation the government wants to change, so that is why the digital currency is being developed. Legislators continue working to create an adequate legal framework to cover a larger currency market. Also, the financial entity considers its next move as it analyzes the results obtained from the project’s pilot plan.

Aleksandr Yablunivskiy, the bank’s representative, says: “We are not talking about a cryptocurrency, we are talking about a digital currency of the central bank. It can be implemented with both centralized and decentralized registry technology.

To conclude, it is necessary to remember that in January 2018 the National Bank of Ukraine stated that it was considering a digital version of its currency, which would not be based on blockchain technology. Several countries have decided to issue digital versions of their trust currency.
