UK postponed launching of customs blockchain project

The authorities decided to put the new platform into operation after Great Britain quits the European Union

This week the United Kingdom decided to postpone the launching of a blockchain technology project that would benefit the customs industry.

The reason for this delay is that the authorities want to wait for the departure of Great Britain from the European Union, also known as the Brexit.

The member of the British Parliament, Eddie Hughes, was the one in charge to touch the subject through the section of Questions and Answers of the website of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

The financial secretary of the Treasury of the United Kingdom, Mel Stride, assured that the project involves developing a chain of blocks that would be used to keep an operator up to date on “an authorized economic operation”.

He also added that the pilot program was tested for six weeks. “The pilot focused on the construction of a single authorized block chain that could be used to report the status of Authorized Economic Operator” of a trader.
