Twitter celebrates its 15th anniversary
With more than 190 million users per day, the popular network has a great impact on the political, economic and journalistic sectors
Through the simple message of Jack Dorsey: “Just setting up my twitter“, the microblogging service of great impact today in the political, economic and journalistic sector began a trajectory of 15 years. Now it celebrates its anniversary with the large family that accompanies it on the web.
With more than 190 million users per day, Twitter has stood as a key player in social networks and although its popularity has led the platform to be involved in numerous controversies, the social impact has been outstanding since its creation.
In January, for instance, the platform decided to delete the account of the then president of the United States, Donald Trump. It was one of his main communication tools. And he accumulated 88 million followers.
Faced with such action, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey defended his position, although he admitted that such decision constituted “failure” and that it represented a “dangerous” precedent.
This type of actions has generated applause from users as well as criticism, highlighting the social network as an example for other platforms for showing balance and neutrality, defense of freedom of expression and moderation.
