Xbox Live announces name change

The online service for Microsoft's game console will now be called Xbox Network

Xbox Live, the online service for Xbox consoles, is officially renamed Xbox Network without undergoing any changes in the functions it offers, in order to differentiate itself from its online subscription service, Xbox Live Gold.

The new name already appears in the user panel of Xbox players, and it is the first renewal of the name of the platform since the beginning of operations 18 years ago.

The change, Microsoft indicates, is made to distinguish the main online service from the Xbox Live Gold subscription, but does not entail any transformation in the services that were offered in its previous version.

The novelty is signed after a few months of rumors about a change in the Microsoft Services Agreement in its English version. In it, the reference to ‘Xbox Live’ was stopped to indicate “Xbox online service”, leaving the door open to the change that has now been ratified.

Following the change in the Services Agreement, Xbox denied any name changes and the possible disappearance of Live Gold. After that, he announced a price increase for the subscription service, from which he had to back down, as well as unlock free titles such as Fortnite, after criticism received for the decision.
