Toyota, No. 1 Selling in the US
The Japanese group surpassed General Motors and was ranked number 1 in sales in the United States
Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) is the automobile group with the highest sales volume in 2021 in the United States after registering more than 2.33 million registrations, representing an increase of 10.4% compared to 2020, according to the Company data.
Thus, it surpasses General Motors, the sales leader in the US market since 1931, which sold 2.21 million vehicles, representing a drop of 12.9%.
In December, the Japanese group registered 174,111 vehicles, 30.2% less than in the same month of the previous year, while General Motors sold 440,745 units, 42.9% less.
The Toyota brand registered sales of 150,072 units in December, which represents a decrease of 29.0%, while in the year as a whole, it accounted for more than 2 million vehicles, which represents an increase of 10.3%.
“Despite a challenging second year in a row, TMNA was focused on delivering an exceptional customer experience and we remain optimistic as our electrification strategy continues to evolve,” commented TMNA Senior Vice President of Automotive Operations Jack Hollis.
For its part, General Motors blamed this decline in sales on the semiconductor crisis.
