Various reports affirm that Spanish banks are preparing in terms of the implementation of a digital euro.

Everything indicates that Iberpay will be in charge of leading this project. It is a payment platform, with the mission of managing the banking infrastructure of institutions in Spain.

Together with Iberpay, the five main Spanish banks, Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank, Bankia and Sabadell, would be the entities that would begin to test with a token equivalent to the digital euro.

Internal sources assure that “the proposed model has been exhaustively evaluated from a legal point of view, analyzing the legal aspects to take into account in the case of proposing a productive scenario, including possible changes in the corporate purpose of Iberpay, as well as the eventual need for ad hoc regulation, new legal and contractual obligations”, adds the document”.

These tests are also carried out under the authorization of the Bank of Spain, who are in constant communication with Iberpay, to be familiar with these types of innovations and to be able to apply them in the future.
