The co-founder and director of Tesla, Elon Musk, confirmed the attempt of a “serious” cyberattack at the Tesla factory in Nevada (United States), which has been thwarted with the collaboration of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the United States Department of Justice United (FBI).

According to several sources, an employee of the factory received an offer of one million dollars to introduce a ‘malware’ into the computer system of the electric car company.

The employee, with access to computer networks, was contacted by a Russian man, Egor Igorevich Kryuchkov, who promised him the reward if he introduced a virus that would allow hackers to extract corporate and network data, in order to hijack it until the manufacturer will pay a ransom.

The worker, whose entity has not been disclosed, decided to notify his superiors at Tesla, who contacted the FBI to foil this attack.

The attempted cyberattack has resulted in the arrest of Kryuchkov, 27, on August 22 in Los Angeles, according to the United States Department of Justice.
