Within the framework of the First Russia-Latin America International Parliamentary Conference, parliamentarians from Russia and Latin America expressed their strong condemnation of the unilateral sanctions imposed by Western countries on a group of thirty nations.

The President of the Russian Senate, Valentina Matviyenko, during her speech at the plenary session of the conference in Moscow, stated forcefully: “We firmly oppose sanctions, any unilateral restrictions of an illegitimate nature that violate international law and the norms of the International Trade”.

The president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, also denounced the serious situation caused by these sanctions, pointing out that “currently, 30 countries are suffering 26,162 sanctions imposed by a single country and its allies, which represents 28% of the world population”. Rodríguez described these unilateral measures as a new “plague” that affects the well-being of people, their right to public health, as well as their access to technology and development.

The president of the Popular Assembly of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, highlighted the “unprecedented intensification” of the United States economic and financial blockade against his country, mentioning the 243 new measures imposed by former President Donald Trump and maintained by the Joe Biden administration. . Lazo described Cuba’s inclusion on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism as “especially cruel and politically motivated,” which has had serious repercussions on the nation’s financial transactions.

This parliamentary conference has served as a crucial space for discussion and call for action against unilateral sanctions that negatively impact the lives of millions of people around the world.
