Curaçao Refinery will be operated by Motiva Enterprises

The US company, based in Houston, will be in charge of replacing the Venezuelan PDVSA once its contract to operate the refinery expires at the end of 2019

The Curaçao refinery selected the US company Motiva Enterprises (Houston) as a substitute for Petróleos de Venezuela, PDVSA, once its contract expires at the end of 2019.

Although the company has not yet issued a comment on this selection, the authorities of Curaçao expect it to take control of the refinery on the island which produces 335,000 bpd.

The transactions to find a substitute for PDVSA began in early 2018 through a tender, given that the oil facilities remain inactive since May, due to a legal case between the Venezuelan company and the US company ConocoPhillips.

Motiva Enterprises was selected from a group of important companies interested in running the Curaçao refinery since 2020 or earlier if the agreement is signed next year.

In any case, Curaçao is working to reach the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the chosen operating company and the Curaçao government in mid-January.

At the same time, the authorities of the island hope that the company Curaçao Refinery Utilities (CUR), which provides the refinery with water and electricity, will resume the supply before the end of 2018.
