Panama deports migrants from Darien with help from the United States
This Tuesday, August 20, the first deportation flight with irregular migrants crossing the Darién, destined for Medellín, left Panama with the help of the United States
The deportation flights from Panama in the case of irregular migrants crossing the Darién jungle began this Tuesday, August 20, towards Medellín, Colombia. They have the assistance of the United States in this process.
“A total of 29 Colombian citizens, mostly young, and with criminal records, according to official sources told EFE, arrived handcuffed at the capital’s Marcos A. Gelabert Airport, better known as the Albrook terminal, where after a documentary search they boarded the aircraft, which departed shortly after 06:00 local time (13:00 CET).”
In the case of Venezuelan migrants, who have crossed the Darién jungle in their desire to reach, mainly, the United States, the Panama Immigration office indicated that at this time they do not have authorization to make any movement towards Venezuela.
This situation arises because Panama’s diplomatic relations with Venezuela are on hold following the crisis in the South American country following the elections on July 28.
The authorities have indicated that after receiving primary care at official posts, Venezuelans “are allowed to continue, with the flow controlled,” their trip to the United States.
