Microsoft had been working on its own video game store that already has a launch date. It will be next July, in web format.
Although the technology company recently announced the closure of four of its studios, at the end of last week it focused on positive news, such as the launch of its own Xbox Store in July.
The release date was confirmed by Xbox President Sarah Bond. As indicated by the executive to Bloomberg, the video game store will arrive at Android and iOS in the month of July.
Mircosoft’s Xbox Store could become an alternative to the iOS App Store and the Android Google Play Store. It is important to note that “it will not arrive as a native app, since it will be released in web format”, given that in this way the company will be able to distribute it globally and on any device. “While on Android there should be no problem launching a store as a native app, on iOS things change quite a bit. Specifically, in the case of Apple they could only launch a native application from their store in Europe, since they are obliged to allow it, but that is limited to EU countries,” they indicated.
Among the games that will be available are Minecraft and Candy Crush. Later they will likely include titles such as Call of Duty: Mobile, Warzone Mobile and Diablo Immortal.
According to Bond, they want to “extend that capability to partners so they can take advantage of it and have a true cross-platform mobile experience focused on gaming.” He also stressed that “the ultimate goal, it seems, is to offer a true alternative store to Apple and Google’s offerings, complete with third-party support, but it seems there is still a long way to go.”
