Mexico and the US will meet to discuss migration

The Mexican president and the US vice president will hold a virtual meeting to discuss this important issue for both nations

The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, and the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will meet virtually to “address the root causes of migration.”

Harris’ advisor and spokesperson, Symone Sanders, explained that this virtual meeting will take place on May 7th and will also count with the participation of the Mexican Foreign Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard, and the Mexican Secretary of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier Carrillo.

Ebrard announced this event on his Twitter account and indicated that the meeting “will discuss cooperation to deal with the pandemic and Mexico’s proposal to extend the ‘Sembrando Vida’ program to Central America to deal with forced migration. for poverty.”

At the Climate Summit organized this week by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, his Mexican counterpart already proposed this reforestation program, with which it is sought that the United States government can give temporary work visas and nationality to those who participate in the draft.

According to a statement from the White House, the objective of this future meeting is to deepen “the partnership” between the two countries “to achieve the common goals of prosperity, good governance and address the causes of migration.”
